The
farm covers a total area of 45 hectares (just over 100 acres).
A third is forest, preserved under
Brazilian
conservation laws so that it cannot be used for agriculture
or property development. Another part is laid to pasture with
a large cattle shed and hay barn, sometimes borrowed by neighbouring
farmers to graze their cattle or horses. There is a smaller
plot for agriculture and then finally the house and gardens.
There is also a newly refurbished 12m swimming pool
with shower and lounge area.
The
gardens were the main attraction for me, where chickens run
freely by day, protected by their large run by night. Pakita,
the farm dog is delighted to receive company and by late afternoon
you could well catch the site of the small monkeys that play
noisily in the high coconut trees. Wandering through almost
two acres of orchards, with over 100 trees full of tropical
and exotic fruits feels like the Garden of Eden. Lemons, oranges,
avocados, mangos, bananas, coconuts and cashew nuts are just
the ones that I can recognise.
